Chad’s Top Ten Attractions

Miami Beach and South Beach has some of my favorite places to see and visit in the Greater Miami and Beaches area. What’s really great about the sightseeing on Miami Beach is that just sitting at a curbside café is sightseeing as the crowd is so eclectic and fun! Miami Beach has a great mix of beaches and water, museums and cultural activities and unbelievable architecture. Below is a list of my favorite places to see and things to do while on South Beach/Miami Beach and, hold on to your hats, some are FREE……

#1 Day on the Beach

From topless bathers and celebs that frequent Lummas Park to the clothing-optional bathers of Haulover Beach Park the sites are great….or shocking depending on your perspective. But, heck, you’re at a location with the best beaches in the world so….

#2 Everglades Airboat Rides

You absolutely have to do this. Many great tour operators provide these rides that will have you feeling like you are flying. The splendor of the wildlife and flora of the Everglades is best experienced on an airboat ride.

#3 Art Deco Historic District

Hotels and homes built during or just after the great depression riddle this area and have, fortunately, been preserved. This was the impetus for the great revitalization of Miami Beach beginning in the 1980s. You can find many walking tours or just pick up a great book and go for a walk.

#4 The Bass Museum

Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum focusing on exhibitions of international contemporary art. Often breaks new artists and one of my favorite museums in South Florida.

#5 Miami Beach Botanical Garden
Miami Beach Botanical Garden 2136

A 2.6 acre urban oasis furnished with subtropical plants from around the world and South Florida native plants. Located next to the Miami Beach Convention Center and admission is free.

#6 Boat/Sightseeing Tours

Many company’s provide sightseeing tours from the water and the perspective is great. From touring the waterfront mansions and landmarks to high-speed boat tours to nighttime dinner tours you will always have a great adventuring touring Miami Beach by boat.

#7 The Wolfsonian

Located on 10th and Washington in the heart of South Beach, The Wolfsonian-FIU Museum is a preservation of the Mitchell J. Wolfson collection of decorative propaganda arts featuring over 180,000 objects from 1850-1950 including works in a variety of media.

#8 Miami Beach Boardwalk

Begins as a paved walkway at 5th street on South Beach continuing as a wooden boardwalk from 23rd street to Indian Creek Park at 46th Street. Great way to enjoy the beach while taking in some of the beautiful landmarks of Miami Beach.

#9 Miami Children’s Museum

Located across from Jungle Island on the Macarthur Causeway offering interactive exhibits, programs, and learning materials related to arts, culture, community and communication. A great half day adventure for visitors and their children.

#10 Stroll Wynwood

I know…..this isn’t Miami Beach….but it is so close and so damn cool! Hangout at any of the great breweries, marvel at the murals and street art, catch a flick at O Cinema or browse the Rubell Family Art Colletion. There is so much to do in Wynwood!
