Where is it?
Located merely three miles offshore of South Florida, in the southern peak of Miami Beach and north of the Port of Miami, Fisher Island is a private and exclusive community accessible only by ferry or yacht to residents and premier guests (that must be pre-verified). Despite its surroundings, the island is an entirely separate entity that allows you to disconnect to the caribbean with a unique resort full of luxurious accommodations and utmost privacy.
What started as an island full of palm trees and mangroves, Fisher Island was founded by real estate developer Carl Fisher after purchasing it from Dana Dorsey, South Florida’s first African American millionaire in 1919. After acquiring the island, Fisher traded it for William K Vanderbilt II’s 250 foot yacht. In 1925, Vanderbilt used the property to build a multi-million dollar retreat with luxurious amenities. After his death and assorted changes in ownership, the island was later fully developed in the 1980’s. Today, 33109, the island’s zip code, serves as one of the most affluent in the nation.
